Below is the copy of the memo I drafted to give to Julie's moms. I will meet with the full staff of December 8th to explain the project, and shortly thereafter present the project to the moms and give them this printed document. My presentation to the moms will include a demonstration with the view camera. I will also show a sample photograph (taken with the view camera) of my mom and me and share my mom's responses to the interview questions I will ask the Julie's moms.

MEMO

TO: Julie’s Moms
FROM: Annie
DATE: December 2006
SUBJECT: Julie’s Family Portrait Project
________________________________________________________________________

WHAT
As some of you know, Annie is at Julie Family Learning Program to complete a photography project. She has decided that she would like to take portraits of Julie’s families. If you would like to participate in the Julie’s Family Portrait Project, she will make an 8x10 family portrait for you to hang in your home. Annie will also interview all Portrait Project participants. If you would not like to participate, that is ok too.

WHY
This project is intended to be a celebration of the work of Julie’s Family Learning Program, and more specifically, a CELEBRATION OF THE WORK YOU ARE DOING AS A MOTHER.

WHO
Since this is a project celebrating motherhood you should plan to have you and as many children as possible in the photograph. You may also choose to have your spouse or boyfriend in the photograph if you would like.

WHEN
This project will go on for several months. If you would like to participate, you may sign-up in the 2nd floor Adult Education Office for a date, time, and location that will work well for you and your family.

The time of day should be one when all the family members you would like in the picture are available. Daytime hours are preferable, and you should have at least one hour to spend being photographed and interviewed.

Annie would like to interview all the moms who are participating. She will plan to do this on the day of the photo shoot unless you ask her to schedule that for another time. Annie will give you sample interview questions when you sign up for a date, time, and location. Please do not worry about preparing too much. Your natural, free-flowing thoughts will be wonderful.

WHERE
You may choose to have your family portrait taken wherever you would like. The location should be a place that is special to you and your family.

Some options could include:
• Your living space
• Your favorite park
• The Julie’s building

If you would like to participate in this project, you need to do the following at school:

1. Find Annie in the Adult Education Office to set-up a date, time, and location for your family photo shoot and your interview.
(Tell Annie if you cannot do your interview on the same day as your family portrait.)
2. Give Annie your cell or home phone number in case she needs to contact you. Her cell phone number is (630) 697-7761.

If you would like to participate in this project, you need to do the following at home:

1. Tell the family members who you would like to be in the photograph the date, time, and location of the photo shoot.
2. Think about:
a. Where you would like the photographs taken
b. Who you would like included in your family photographs
c. What you would like to be doing in the photographs
(Some ideas might include doing a puzzle, playing a game, cooking, or hugging.)

On the day of your family picture, you need to:

1. Remind all your family members to be at the designated location at the specified time.
2. Make sure you and your family members are 10 minutes early to the location of the photo shoot.
3. Call Annie if there are any problems because of weather or if something comes up.
4. Be prepared with ideas about how you would like your family photographed.

On the day of your family picture, you can expect Annie to:

1. Be on time, or call if she is running late for any reason.
2. Take some straightforward family pictures first. She will use a view camera (a very large type of camera) that sits on a tripod.
3. Take some pictures of you and your family doing activities that are meaningful to you. You should think about these before she arrives.
4. Conduct an interview with you (the mom) unless you have made arrangements to do this at another time.
